Red Raider Community:
We scheduled a Special Meeting of the Board of Education for tonight to discuss our reopening plans that were distributed to you on Friday. Following her swearing in ceremony yesterday, Governor Kathy Hochul spoke to New York State residents and made the following statements in regards to reopening school:
“My number one priority is getting children back to school and protecting the environment so they can learn safely. I am immediately directing the Department of Health to institute universal masking for anyone entering our schools, and we are launching a Back to School COVID-19 testing program to make testing for students and staff widely available and convenient. We are also working to require vaccinations for all school personnel with an option to test out weekly, and we are going to accomplish all of this by working in partnership with all levels of government.” The governor went on to say that she will announce a series of policies later this week “that are concise and consistent, giving schools what they have been asking for.”
We are still holding our meeting tonight in the auditorium. If you wish to attend in-person, per the Governor’s mandate, please wear a mask. We will also be live streaming the meeting on Facebook. We have a few action items for the board, and Dr. Sgambati will be in attendance to respond to any health and safety concerns brought up during public comment.
Once the policies from NYS are released, we will provide you with context as to how they will be applied in our schools and on our grounds. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment no matter what requirements are asked of us. Our team is thrilled to have school starting on September 8.
My best,
Bruce
